Paramotor Training Adventures in Mexico With BlackHawk!

In addition to the Year-round training offered through our National Training Centers, BlackHawk Instructors head down to La Salina Mexico twice a year to offer an exclusive training experience. For those who live or fly primarily in coastal areas, this is a great opportunity to learn in such conditions. Normally, we prefer to train students inland where the varying conditions provide a more inclusive training experience. Perfect laminar coastal air is wonderful for kiting, however, it doesn’t always prepare students for flying inland. To address this concern, BlackHawk Instructors will eventually take students inland to challenge them and work on refining their skills. On average, it takes 5-7 days for foot-launch students to complete the training program. BlackHawk follows a strict and progressive training cyllibus, outlined by the United States Powered Paragliding Association. Beginner Students typically conduct their ground school utilizing the Velocity Edge or Velocity Elektra Paraglider. These gliders are second to none in their level of passive safety, ease of operation, durability, and performance.

BlackHawk’s Instructors understand that everyone learns in different ways, and at different rates. Constructive advise and positive encouragement keeps students in their comfort zones while they challenge themselves to become the best pilots they can be. Our instructors stay by the student’s side the entire time, providing that one-on-one, personalized training experience. Everyone works very hard to achieve the ultimate goal – to take their first solo flight.

No time is wasted. If students take a break from kiting, Instructors will use that time to go over the written syllabus, machine maintenance procedures, or study weather conditions. Then the student is sent back to the training grounds to put to use what they have learned. Everyone works hard towards achieving a universal goal… To take their first solo flight with confidence.

For the Instructors, looking forward to seeing that certain smile on the student’s face after they land from their first flight, is what makes all the hard work pay off. After 5 days of nonstop training, this group of eager students are told by their Instructors that they are ready to take their first solo flight.

The adrenaline’s pumping when students wake up that day to take their first flight. Instructors go over final details and adjust the center of gravity for each student’s machine. Motors are gassed up and students start warming up their machines. After it’s decided who is launching first, the glider is laid out, risers are hooked in, and radio checks commence.

Instructors guide each student through every single step to ensure the student feels comfortable with what they are doing. Constant radio communication between the student and instructor allows everyone at the launch site to be prepared for takeoff.

One-by-one, students take to the sky, demonstrating the skills they have all worked hard to acquire. Students always remember their first flight. It’s a monumental achievement for a pilot.

The total openness and the feeling of literally floating through the sky changes people’s lives. It changes the way they see the world and for many, this moment becomes the realization of a childhood dream… Powered Paragliding is all about freedom and exploration. This low-and-slow form of personal flight requires no license and Pilots can launch or land just about anywhere.

Most importantly, it’s the safest form of personal flight out there – bar none. Over the last decade, the sport has grown tremendously as more people are discovering this inexpensive alternative to owning an airplane.

One of the huge draws to owning a Powered Paraglider is it’s portability. Foot-Launch units can be broken down to fit into a large suitcase or the trunk of your car. This allows Pilots to take their personal flying machine anywhere they go. Setup is very easy. Pilots can go from car trunk to sky in a matter of minutes.

Choosing the right equipment and more importantly, the right Instructor is very important.
