World’s Lightest Paramotor? Is Light Right For Pilots?

Technology has changed everything – especially in the Powered Paragtliding Industry. We are seeing unheard-of glide-ratios, incredible HP for such small engines, and just about everything is getting lighter… Lighter frames, lighter props, lighter engines. However, there is a point where we must start asking the question “is light right.” How thin can you manufacture a engine cylinder, case, & exhaust before dependability suffers immensely? We are already aware of several Manufacturers who have significant issues with the durability of their engines, frames, and exhaust. To save weight on a Paramotor, corners MUST be cut. There is a reason why the biggest aircraft manufacturers in the world use certain materials (like aircraft-grade aluminum) and always have. Thinking outside the box can be good and everyone likes something “new,” but if it effects the quality & durability of a aircraft or dramatically increases the price to the consumer, it might not be the best choice.

Recently, we’ve seen a specific Manufacturer of Powered Paragliding equipment boasting “the lightest Paramotor in the world.” If Honda came out with a car and said “worlds lightest car” but they took out the seat-belts and made the body out of fiberglass to save weight – would you want one? Who cares what your car weighs… Do you know what your car weighs? Probably not because it doesn’t mater. At the same time, the weight of a Paramotor is only a concern for the minute it takes you to launch… Once you are airborne, the weight isn’t of such concern. Do you really want to sacrifice so much to get so little in return? On the flip side, if the motor is too heavy, there are concerns with that as well. It’s all about finding that perfect compromise or balance.

Paramotor Buyer’s Guide

If you are one of the many people just discovering this amazing sport, it can be quite a daunting task to figure out where to start. You might have questions like “Which company should I buy a Paramotor from? What motor is best for me personally? How do I select the appropriate Paraglider? These are the types of questions we will be covering in this multi-part Buyer’s Guide from BlackHawk Paramotors USA!

This new discussion-style video is the first part in an ongoing series. There aren’t many places out there to just go “test drive” a Powered Paraglider… It isn’t as simple as purchasing a car. This is aviation we are talking about. The sport is growing tremendously, however, there aren’t Paramotor Dealers in every city. This can make it hard for people to decide what gear is best for them. Many factors go into choosing the proper equipment: Your weight, age, elevation, flying style, physical ability, takeoff location, and so much more. BlackHawk wants to give potential Pilots access to expert advise from people who actually build the machines, not just fly them.
